In Loving Memory of Phil Parker Minimize

Phil was born on September 24, 1934 in Flat Rock, Illinois, the fourth of five boys born to Nellie Duncan Parker and Roy Parker. Phil was raised in the wheat and oil fields of Western Kansas. After earning his Geology degree from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, he married his sweetheart, Coleen Lanfear Parker who together shared a loving 53-year marriage. Together, Phil and Coleen moved their family to Lovington and Roswell, New Mexico; Bogota, Columbia, SA; Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Shreveport, Louisiana and finally to Lafayette, Louisiana where Phil accepted a position as Offshore Geological Engineer with Tenneco Oil Company in the early 1960’s. In 1966, Phil began working as an Independent Geologist. In the mid 1970’s, he began drilling and operating wells primarily in South Louisiana.

As with all of his endeavors, Phil worked steadily and unselfishly while serving on numerous boards and associations for the oil & gas industry. Later in Phil’s life, he wrote and published many poems and short stories for which he was recognized by “Who’s Who Among American Poets”, “The Golden Poet’s Society”, and the Library of Congress. Phil was an accomplished Bowyer, having spent many years enjoying and promoting the wonderful sports of bow hunting and archery. Phil enjoyed numerous hunting trips and archery tournaments all across the country with his peers, children and grandchildren. Hopefully, “Cajun Phil” stories will be shared for many generations around warming campfires.

Phil is survived by his loving wife, Coleen; his children, Cynthia J. Parker of Lafayette, David J. Parker and his wife, Chris of Lafayette, Gloria L. Wronkowski and her husband, Joe of Madisonville, Louisiana, and Patricia S. Parker and her partner, Gene Caldwell of Lafayette. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Adam, Leslie and Kelly Parker of Lafayette, and Mike, Lauren and Jack Wronkowski of Madisonville, Louisiana, his brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Jean Parker of Russell, Kansas; sister-in-law, Peggy Parker of Littleton, Colorado; and Coleen’s sister, Delores Williams and her husband, Leslie of Grove, Oklahoma along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, John Parker, Max Parker and Joe Parker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gene Brierre and the Louisiana Oncology Staff, Dr. Jody Rosson and Lourdes Fifth Floor Staff for affording us so many more years with Phil.

The Louisiana Traditional Bowmen would like extend their welcome the newest members.  We are a statewide organization. Our mission is to foster, expand, strenghten and develop the sport of traditional archery. We strive to develop the spirit of good fellowship among all traditional archers and promote the use of the recurve, longbow, flat bow, selfbow and other traditional style bows in all endeavors. We coordinate and cooperate with state and federal wildlife and conservation agencies in securing better hunting seasons and privileges for the LTB members choosing to hunt.  We act as a coordination organization for statewide traditional archery activities through affiliation with the Bayou State Bowhunters Association.  Our wish is to bring traditional archers together in Louisiana.

 In Memory Of Minimize
The Bayou State Bowhunters Association chose Sterling to be one of the first members of the BSBA Bowhunter Hall-of-Fame. Besides a life time of promoting archery in Louisiana and being a regular bowhunting companion of Ben Pearson, Sterling was among the first to ask the State of Louisiana to issue bowhunting licenses. He correctly reasoned that this would be the only way to count our growing number of bowhunters, so that we could then accomodate them with places to hunt. Today, our state has 50 Wildlife Management Areas with Public Hunting.
